HMIP publish their inspection report on Yarl's Wood

Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Prisons (HMIP) today, launched their report on an unannounced inspection of Yarl's Wood Immigration Centre between the 9th and 13th November 2009. Whilst the inspection found that improvements had been made  since the last visit, particularly in the improvements made in healthcare provision,  concerns remained about certain aspects of detention at the centre. Concerns focussed on how force had been used on two occasions against children, how detention had a negative impact on the welfare of children and how there was a lack of adequate activities and work for women at the centre to engage in.
