People on remand

The Prison Reform Trust have published their latest report, entitled ‘Prisoners on Remand. It highlights that remand prisoners have a range of mental health problems and according to the Office for National Statistics, more than three-quarters of men on remand suffer from a personality disorder.  One in 10 have a functional psychosis and more than half experience depression. For women on remand, nearly two-thirds suffer from depression. Once again these figures are higher than for sentenced prisoners. Research has found that 9% of remand prisoners require immediate transfer to the NHS. To see the full report, please visit the Prisoner Reform Trust’s website by clicking here.
