Death in prison custody 2010 figures published

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has announced that there were 58 apparently self-inflicted deaths among prisoners in England and Wales in 2010.

The Ministry of Justice published its Safer in Custody Statistics which provides an analysis on deaths, self harm and violence in prison. The statistics are an important source of information for those interested in understanding and improving safety in prison and other custodial settings. This publication updates statistics on assaults and self-harm up to December 2015 and annual assaults and self-harm tables, and statistics on deaths in prison custody up to March 2016.
