IAPDC asks for urgent response to life-threatening heat in custody

Juliet Lyon, chair of the Independent Advisory Panel on Deaths in Custody (IAPDC) has today (Monday 18 July) written to the Rt Hon Kit Malthouse MP, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, to request an urgent response to the current severe heat warning as it relates to the safety of people in custody.

 Juliet writes:

It is vital to ensure that there are enough custody officers and health colleagues with the capacity to identify and respond to deteriorating physical and mental health conditions within the population for whom they are responsible.

The letter has also been copied to the ministerial co-chairs of the Ministerial Board on Deaths in Custody.
