Professor Seena Fazel reappointed to IAPDC

The Deputy Prime Minister, in his capacity as Secretary of State for Justice, has reappointed Professor Seena Fazel as a member of the IAPDC for three years from May 2026.
Professor Fazel is a serving member of the IAPDC, having begun his first term in 2018. Seena is the Professor of Forensic Psychiatry and Director of the Centre for Suicide Research at the University of Oxford. He is an honorary consultant forensic psychiatrist for Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust and works clinically in a forensic community team, and previously for over a decade as a visiting psychiatrist at a local prison.
Wendy Sinclair-Gieben, IAPDC Chair, has warmly welcomed the news of Professor Fazel’s reappointment.
Speaking about his appointment, Professor Fazel said: “I am delighted to continue serving on the IAPDC. Preventing deaths in custody requires careful scrutiny, rigorous use of high-quality evidence, robust analysis, and a clear understanding of risk and prevention. I look forward to contributing to the Panel’s work through independent, evidence-based advice informed by the latest research and data.”
