Government Public Appointments Team seek to recruit new IAPDC chair

The Public Appointments Team are looking for a new chair lead the Independent Advisory Panel on Deaths in Custody (IAPDC).

The Chair will take over from current chair, Juliet Lyon, who was reappointed to the post in September 2019. They will oversee five panel members and is accountable to Ministers with relevant responsibility for deaths in custody in the Ministry of Justice, Department of Health and Social Care and the Home Office.

 The role of the chair is to provide clear, expert advice to Ministers and senior officials; provide effective and visible leadership; develop and maintain strong links with senior figures; determine the IAPDC work programme; and publish relevant reports.

 In addition to the above, the Chair will attend meetings of the Ministerial Board on Deaths in Custody (MBDC) and regular meetings of the IAPDC.

 They are looking for someone who can demonstrate a strong commitment to the safety and humane treatments of people in state detention, an ability to gather information and develop clear independent advice for Ministers and officials and possesses highly developed leadership skills.
