In accordance with the functions of its terms of reference, the Independent Advisory Panel on Deaths in Custody was asked in 2018 by the Home Office to provide advice on issues pertaining to deaths, ‘near misses’, and incidents of serious self-harm in immigration detention.

This work programme outlines key IAPDC work to be delivered between July 2020 and July 2021.

Response from Kit Malthouse MP, Minister of State for Crime and Policing about the way in which effective work between police, courts and health services can significantly reduce the risk of deaths in prison custody.

This briefing paper presents the conclusions of an initiative by the Independent Advisory Panel on Deaths in Custody (IAP) and the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) to identify how natural deaths in prison might be prevented, where possible, and end of life care managed with dignity and compassion.
